I am an artist who loves knitting.
Colour combinations and yarn textures are what I like most about knitting. Picking yarn colours and waiting to see how that combination works out is the best part of the process. Using my background as an artist, I create each hat as I would a piece of art. It takes about one and half hours to knit a hat. These hats are unique and are hand knit by me.
Colours in the landscape are my inspiriation for these hats. I work by starting with colour studies from the landscape. Looking at these colours over a cup of coffee and reducing down the number of colours, I'm happy to make a start on a new hat. Sometimes another combination will emerge when I'm not thinking about it.
The landscape where I live in West County Sligo has a colourful tapestry of heritage and folklore. With over 5000 years of history, megalithic sites are dotted throughout the area. Sligo is well known for it's iconic mountain range Benbulben and Queen Maeve's resting place Knocknarea. Lesser known are the Ox Mountains where I live, which date to back to a pre-historic time.
